Since 1840, Somnus has been making beds and mattresses, remaining a family business of quality craftsmanship for more than five generations.

The knowledge gained over the years has made their name synonymous with a bed that’s luxury and hand made.  Somnus rear their own sheep for the wool that makes their mattress fillings, taking a year to grow the materials required for just one mattress.

The finest natural fillings are selected for all the luxury mattresses made by Somnus, and the same care and attention goes into all the British craftmanship.

Located in Yorkshire, skilled crafters in their factory are hand making every mattress, divan, headboard, and bed frame.  Everything is made to the customer’s order, whether that’s the hand tufting on a mattress, or upholstering a headboard.

The time-honoured techniques required for such a fine art have been handed between generations to ensure that the beauty of their work on the bespoke beds remains the highest quality, to represent the best in British manufacturing.

Somnus has learned through its 180 years of experience, that creating a bed all by themselves is the key to something very beautiful.
